 Anatomy of Respiration System

The respiratory system involves the nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and lungs.

From a point of view of clinical, the respiratory system is divided into the upper and lower respiratory tract.

1 upper respiratory tract:

The upper respiratory tract is including the nose, pharynx (throat), and associated structures.

2 Lower respiratory tract:

The lower respiratory tract has the following parts.

 larynx, trachea, bronchi, and lungs.

The respiratory system has  the following organs:

i.              Nose

ii.             Pharynx

iii.            Larynx (Voicebox)

iv.           Trachea

v.            Bronchi

vi.           Lungs

Nose:

It is an important part of the respiratory system.it filters the air and when we inhale it helps to warm air. The nose helps us to breathe and speak. Mucous membranes present in the nose caches some foreign particles like smoke pollen and other pollutants.

Pharynx:

The other name of the pharynx in the throat. It is a common path for the respiratory and digestive systems. The pharynx has three regions

a)            Nasopharynx

b)            Oropharynx

c)            Hypopharynx

parts of pharynx

Air passes through the upper part of the throat while foods, air fluids pass through the lower part of the throat.

Larynx (Voicebox)

The larynx lies ahead of the lower part of the pharynx. It is the upper leading part of the windpipe and opens into the trachea. The larynx has many cartilages. the thyroid cartilage isThe largest of these. It is Attached to the top of the thyroid cartilage are Epilogues and which help to close off the larynx during swallowing.

Voice Cords

The vocal cords lie inside the larynx. It helps to create voice.

Trachea (windpipe)

It is about 10cm long. It connects your lungs to your bronchi. The trachea is made of cartilage. The cartilage is in the shape of rings. In the trachea cells produce mucus. This mucus keeps dust particles, allergens, and other debris out of your lungs.

Bronchi:

The trachea divided into two bronchi

"              Right bronchi

"              Left bronchi

Bronchi divided into bronchioles. Further bronchioles are divided into alveoli.

Millions of alveoli are present and these are in close contact with capillaries. Where blood comes into direct contact with air.
